POPIA Compliance Notice: In compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of South Africa, Govah Mobility is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your personal information is collected and processed properly, lawfully, and transparently.
1. Information We Collect
To provide you with a seamless and safe mobility experience across Govah Solo, Govah Share, and Govah Send, we collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, and profile photo when you create or update an account.
- Location Data: We collect precise or approximate location data from riders and drivers to enable rides, navigate routes, and provide ETA updates.
- Payment Data: Payment method details, transaction history, and wallet balances for the Govah Wallet system.
- Driver Specific Data: For driver onboarding and safety, we strictly collect and verify ID documents, vehicle registration, and biometric data (liveness detection matching).
- Device & Usage Data: IP addresses, browser types, app version, and interaction data to improve platform performance.
2. How We Use Your Information
Govah uses the data we collect to operate, maintain, and improve our services. Specifically, we use your data to:
- Facilitate reliable transportation and delivery services.
- Process payments safely and securely.
- Perform background checks to ensure community safety.
- Optimize routes for Govah Share shared taxi corridors.
- Provide customer support and resolve disputes.
- Communicate updates, promotions, and critical platform alerts.
3. Location Tracking & Background Activity
Location accuracy is critical for mobility. Govah tracks location in the background during active trips to ensure safety, accurate pricing, and proper corridor alignment for Govah Share. This data is securely processed in real-time and retained in encrypted PostGIS databases.
Riders can choose to share their location only while using the app, but driver location is continuously tracked while "Online" or executing a route to maintain system integrity.
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal data. We only share information in the following circumstances:
- Between Users: To facilitate a ride, riders will see a driver's name, vehicle details, rating, and location. Drivers will see a rider's pickup location and destination.
- With Service Providers: Payment processors, cloud hosting providers, and SMS gateways required to run Govah.
- For Legal Reasons: When required by law enforcement or regulatory bodies to protect the safety of users or the public.
5. Data Security & Retention
Govah implements robust security measures, including encryption at rest and in transit, to protect your personal data from unauthorized access or disclosure. We retain your information as long as your account remains active or as needed to comply with our legal obligations and resolve disputes.
6. Your Privacy Rights
Under POPIA and other applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request the deletion of your account and associated personal data.
- Opt-out of marketing communications at any time.
